The contact owns a 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at 8 MPH through a parking area, the vehicle suddenly accelerated on its own. As a result, the vehicle traveled 100 feet before coming to a complete stop after colliding with two light poles and a tree. The air bags did deploy. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed a total loss by the contact's insurance provider. A police report was filed, and injuries were reported. The contact was transported to an area hospital by EMT and was treated for whiplash, hearing loss, and pain in his back and knees. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 101,000.

The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and told the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 227,000.

I was driving to work and the light turned red and I went to press on my brakes and if they didn't budge at all even all my body weight on it I couldn't get it to stop I almost smashed into the person in front of me luckily I thought about the emergency break thinked heavens and that's still hardly stopped it

THE WHEEL LUG NUT 'CAPS' FALL OFF OR BECOME LOOSE AND IMPAIR THE PROPER FUNCTION OF THE LUG NUTS WHEN CHANGING WHEELS. MANY INSTANCES HAVE RESULTED IN STRIPPING THESE LUG NUTS AND NEEDING TO REPLACE THEM FOR PROPER FUNCTION. I CONSIDER THIS A SEVERE SAFETY DEFECT IN MANUFACTURING DESIGN. THE CAR COMPANIES SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR DESIGNING BASIC AUTO SAFETY ELEMENTS THAT ENDURE THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE.
