Dear NHTSA, I am filing this complaint regarding a serious and ongoing turbocharger and engine problem in my 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Despite being one of Jeep’s flagship luxury vehicles, my SUV has experienced repeated engine warning lights, loss of power, and now complete turbo failure—all within 57,300 miles and under warranty. Soon after purchase (used, low mileage), the check engine light began appearing repeatedly. The dealership (Jeep Pearson, Broad Street, Richmond, VA) performed several repairs and software resets, but the problem always returned. Recently, I was informed that the turbocharger must be replaced—an alarming issue for such a premium vehicle. These failures have created safety risks including: Sudden loss of acceleration while driving on highways or merging. Hesitation or delayed throttle response, leading to unpredictable behavior in traffic. Concern about engine stalling or overheating from repeated malfunction. I have already escalated the issue to Jeep Brand (Stellantis) and requested the following: Vehicle replacement with a safe, defect-free model; Buyback and loan payoff to remove liability from a defective vehicle; or Two-year warranty extension covering all turbo and powertrain components. Despite multiple service visits and my written escalation, Jeep has not provided a permanent fix or assurance that the problem won’t return after repair. My warranty is nearing expiration, leaving me at risk of future costs caused by what appears to be a manufacturing defect. Through online research and owner discussions, I’ve found other Grand Wagoneer owners reporting similar turbo failures, power loss, and recurring check-engine issues, often before 60,000 miles. This suggests a potential systemic defect that could compromise safety across the 2022 Grand Wagoneer line. I respectfully ask NHTSA to Investigate turbo and powertrain reliability in 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneers. Travelling with my young daughter on the Freeway at Freeway speeds at 9pm (nighttime). The entire vehicle just shut down. EVERYTHING - completely dark. Steering went out. Brakes went out. I had to get the car to basically drift to a shoulder and slow down gradually in a spot where we would be safely out of the way of traffic. Again no brakes or steering and completely dead. Hazzard lights would not work. I had to get the car towed and get my daughter and all of our stuff out of the car on the freeway at night in the complete dark. Scary stuff. It's an expensive car and 2022 is the first model year of the Grand Wagoneer. I suspect based on my experience with this car that this model year will have these types of problems going forward. The car has had electrical issues from day 1 and its unsurprising this happened. What is surprising is just how dangerous the situation was when you were in it. It was a shocking experience.

I am filing this complaint because my Grand Wagoneer has experienced repeated, serious safety-related failures involving the braking system, electrical/communication systems, and vehicle shutdown. I no longer believe this vehicle is safe to operate. The most serious problem has occurred more than once. On July 21, 2026, while driving, the brakes failed. The brake pedal went to the floor and the vehicle would not stop normally. Multiple warning lights/messages appeared. I ultimately had to shift the vehicle into Park to prevent a collision. The vehicle was taken to the Jeep dealership and remained there for an extended period while the problem was investigated. The dealership reported that it could not identify stored diagnostic codes explaining the brake failure. I was told that the brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced before the matter could be escalated further. I authorized approximately $2,000 in brake-related repairs. After an extended stay at the dealership, I received the vehicle back on approximately September 1, 2026. Only approximately two days later, on September 3, 2026, another extremely serious failure occurred. While I was driving, the braking system failed again. The brake pedal went to the floor and I was unable to stop the vehicle normally. The vehicle also experienced an electrical/system failure and shut down while I was driving. Numerous warning messages appeared, including a check-engine warning and suspension/damping system failure. There was also a loss-of-communication fault involving the Body Control Module (U0140 – Lost Communication With Body Control Module). This incident occurred near my daughter’s school and created an immediate risk of a collision and serious injury. The vehicle subsequently restarted, but the clock/time in the vehicle had changed, suggesting that the vehicle may have experienced a significant electrical interruption or module reset. The check-engine light remained illuminated. Other electrical problems

This vehicle has alignment issues causing vibration at higher speeds and excessive tire wear. After multiple alignments and tire balances, nothing has resolved the issues. Dealers are not doing anything about issues. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Our 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer has wheel alignment issues. We are going to our third set of tires in 56,000 miles. Vehicle has excessive vibration traveling over 75 mph after tires have been balanced. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? When tires have excessive wear, they do not grip the road safely and an increased danger in wet weather. Vibration at higher speeds can cause loss of control. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Dealer just says it's out of alignment and charges 200 dollars to align vehicle, but this does not fix the issues. Dealers are no help in this issue Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Only dealer and tire shops. Tire shop says it is a suspension issues, but Jeep dealer denies that Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No lights

My 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer has been subject to an open safety recall involving the rear passenger-side window trim since I purchased the vehicle in 2025. I scheduled and attended numerous appointments with the authorized Jeep dealership seeking completion of the recall repair, but the defect was never remedied. On September 7, 2026, my husband was driving the Grand Wagoneer while I followed behind in another vehicle. My two toddlers were occupants of my vehicle. Before the incident, I observed the recalled rear passenger window trim flapping and becoming loose. The trim then detached completely from the Grand Wagoneer while both vehicles were traveling at approximately 75 mph on the highway. The detached trim entered or moved toward my vehicle’s path, forcing me to swerve suddenly to avoid striking it. This created an immediate risk of losing control, colliding with another vehicle, or leaving the roadway. The incident endangered the occupants of both vehicles, including my two young children, as well as other motorists. Fortunately, no collision or injuries occurred. The flapping trim was the only warning immediately before it detached. The dealership had prior notice of the unrepaired recall because I had brought the vehicle in approximately four times beginning in November 2025. Despite those appointments, the recalled component remained on the vehicle and ultimately failed in the manner the recall was intended to prevent. The vehicle and photographs of the affected area are available for inspection. The detached trim was recovered. Dealership service records and recall communications documenting the unsuccessful repair attempts are also available.

I am submitting additional information regarding NHTSA complaint #11725438 involving my 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Series III. The original complaint involved the front passenger seat lumbar support unexpectedly inflating to maximum firmness without any occupant input. The lumbar support became extremely hard and uncomfortable as though it had inflated to its highest setting on its own creating a large rock hard bulge in the passenger’s back. Since filing the original complaint, the same defect has now occurred in the driver’s seat. The driver’s lumbar support suddenly became rock hard without any adjustment being made to the seat controls. The change was sudden rather than gradual happening overnight. This defect has now occurred in both front seats of the vehicle, suggesting a possible system-wide issue rather than an isolated seat component failure. The unexpected inflation creates a driver distraction and can affect comfort and vehicle operation while driving. This complaint is intended to supplement and update NHTSA complaint #11725438. I request that this additional occurrence be added to the existing record. Many other Wagoneer owners have experienced this same issue as I see repeated complaints of this happening on the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer owner’s facebook pages. There is no way to remedy this situation on my own. The vehicle is not just uncomfortable, it is unsafe in this condition.

Is 59 complaints a lot? They were filed between 2022 and 2026, roughly 13 a year, which is more than the typical model in this dataset. We do not have sales figures for this model, so treat this as a rough volume, not a rate per car on the road. Popular, high-volume models naturally collect more complaints over time.
