The dealer noticed that the rear suspension subframe had rusted and corroded with a hole. They rejected the passage of the state safety check. A review of online forums shows this is a common problem in these years and Canadian and German counterparts of MBUSA have issued recalls because a third party supplier provided the parts without sufficient corrosion protection. See eg. https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w204/805501-rotted-rear-subframe.html

Is 432 complaints a lot? They were filed between 2009 and 2023, roughly 33 a year, which is more than the typical model in this dataset. We do not have sales figures for this model, so treat this as a rough volume, not a rate per car on the road. Popular, high-volume models naturally collect more complaints over time.

How does it compare with other years? The 2010 has 432 complaints on file, fewer than the 2011 (478). Of the 11 model years of the Mercedes Benz C300 we cover, the 2011 has the most (478). Older model years have had longer to collect complaints.
