I was told by the investigators that the fire was caused by an electrical component under the passenger seat that Mercedes is well aware of. My life was placed in danger because of the Inhalation of forever chemicals and lung damaging smoke and super heated air. Problem confirmed by dozens of owners who experienced and documented the very some accounts, some who have reported contacting the NHTSA years prior to my experience but nothing was done to save lives or prevent losses. The American Freedom insurance investigator told me in writing what caused the fire. Nothing gave any indication that my life was in danger not a light, an alarm nor the monthly Connect service I paid for every month. Nothing gave me an indication that something like this was going to happen.

I dropped my [XXX] to a class and was driving the car to run an errand, when I experienced a sudden and total brake failure. The first couple of times I hit the brakes, it felt a little too squishy, but I could still stop the car. Within two minutes, by the time I got to the next traffic light, I was unable to stop the car. Luckily I was at low speed and was able to turn into a residential neighborhood immediately and somehow stop the vehicle within a reasonable distance. Fortunately, the street I turned into, had no cars parked nearby. This was a frightening experience and could have ended very badly for my family had we been on the freeway. Please note - My car was serviced by Park Place Mercedes in Dallas only 2 days earlier, I had not even driven it 50 miles after it was serviced, when the brakes failed on me. I had the car towed back to Park Place Mercedes in Dallas, and they told me there was an air pocket that caused this issue. The contact owned a 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE350. The contact stated that while stopped at a traffic light, another vehicle in the opposite direction ran the red light. A third vehicle struck the second vehicle that ran the red light and caused that vehicle to crash into the driver's side front corner of his vehicle. It resulted in a three-vehicle collision. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. The contact received medical attention for a concussion, neck and shoulder injuries, as well as numbness in his left arm. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the body shop and was not yet deemed totaled by the insurance company. The dealer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that they did not perform auto-collision repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer initially informed the contact that a technician would inspect the vehicle within 48 hours. However, the manufacturer later declined to provide any assistance. The failure mileage was 1,192. The contact stated that when the vehicle is in eco mode, the air bags will not deploy.

The panoramic sunroof exploded upwards and outwards while driving under normal conditions. It created an extremely loud and startling sound that left the driver and passenger stunned. We were fortunate there was not an immediate oncoming vehicle as we likely would have struck head on. Shortly after the explosion, tiny shards of glass began to fall into the passenger area. We were also fortunate to be able to get the vehicle safely off the road. The vehicle was brought to the dealership and the manufacturer was called. They are all pretending they have never heard of something like that happening when a quick search reveals this is a known manufacturing defect with a class action lawsuit filed. The named plaintiff is actually a customer from the very dealership we brought the vehicle to for service. There is no chance they are not aware of the problem.

Is 63 complaints a lot? They were filed between 2022 and 2026, roughly 14 a year, which is more than the typical model in this dataset. We do not have sales figures for this model, so treat this as a rough volume, not a rate per car on the road. Popular, high-volume models naturally collect more complaints over time.
