The contact stated that the vehicle was inspected by the dealer after the first failure, and the contact was informed that the failure might be caused by bad gasoline. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the cause of the failure could not be determined. The dealer was contacted, and an appointment was scheduled for a diagnostic test. The contact's son was able to restart the vehicle, drove to a local convenience store, and parked the vehicle. The contact was exiting the convenience store and noticed a fire exiting from the front hood of the vehicle. The store employee gave the contact's son a fire extinguisher, however the flames were too intense. The fire department and the police were called. The fire department extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported. A fire and police report was filed. The convenience store's concrete and trash can were damaged. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
