- Brake pedal went to the floor with no braking power and the truck had to be towed; owner says this matches a known master cylinder recall, but Ford said the recall does not apply to this truck's parts batch. · filed Aug 2026

I went to start my truck and the brake went all the way to the floor. I had no braking power and it had to be towed back home over an hour away. There is a recall on 2016 Ford F150 with the 3.5 Eco Boost engine which I have. This recall involves a seal in the master cylinder failing and losing braking power and affecting the brake booster. Referencing recall 20S31. I went to Ford and they told me the recall did not apply to this specific truck due to a different batch of parts. This truck is now having the exact problem as the specific ones which have already been recalled. I believe the recall should be expanded. This occurred shortly after driving an hour in the rain with my kid in the back. It could have easily killed us on the highway with no brakes. We had no idea this recall was in effect. It’s the last time I’m buying a Ford. I want to feel safe with my kids in the back and Ford does not seem to care.

When braking, the brake pedal goes to the floor and makes stopping the vehicle difficult. There is no sign of leaks from the lines, and is acting like the open recall on other VIN numbers on this model however Ford does not have an open recall on this VIN. The recall is the brake booster leaking into the master cylinder.

Ford mailed me a XXX Customer Satisfaction Program 26N04 letter for my 2016 F-150, VIN [XXX]. That letter offered a one-time, no-charge replacement of the transmission molded lead frame if the dealer determined replacement was needed, and it described a malfunction indicator lamp and/or wrench light when that part fails. My truck did exactly that. It stored P0715 and P0717, went into limp mode, and the wrench came on. Titus-Will Ford in Tacoma confirmed the turbine speed sensor is part of the lead frame and replaced it (part AL3Z-7G276-D). They denied 26N04 because those codes are not P0705, P0706, P0707, or P1702 — a code list the customer letter never disclosed. The failed part is the part named in your letter. The symptoms are the symptoms named in your letter. I paid invoice XXX dated XXX. The lead-frame line was $1,630.02. - Truck suddenly and randomly loses power, forcing the owner to coast, stop, and restart it; two shops could not reproduce or diagnose the cause. · filed Aug 2023

While driving the truck it suddenly and randomly loses power. Pushing on the gas pedal no longer makes the truck go. You have to coast to a safe spot, brake and turn the truck off, then restart it for it to start working again. The truck has a jolting motion to it when it loses power and until it is shut off. The truck has several indicator lights flashing like a wrench and something about hill assist not functioning. The truck sometimes has trouble starting after it loses power. Safety concerns are if this happens while trying to turn and there is on coming traffic you could get T-boned. If you are unable to pull over on the side of the road to restart the truck, then you risk being stopped in traffic and being hit from behind. This has happened on 3 occasions and happens randomly without warning. It has happened twice in one day. The truck has been to two shops who are unable to reproduce it and unable to find the problem. On-line forums lead me to think it is the electronic throttle body. A previous recall for this was 16B32. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by insurance company or police. The truck has three appointments with 2 different ford dealerships and one independent auto shop coming up for further inspection.

Truck was driving normal and out of no where it loses power entering traffic like it was in limp mode. Dash displays first “see service manual” second “ Service AdvanceTrac” and then finally “hill start assist not available”. When it came to a stop it idled normal but would not accelerate. Had both my kids with me so suddenly stopping like it did in heavy traffic area is alarming and could’ve been bad outcome had someone not been paying attention. This happened twice within 10 miles. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Timing system, yes. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Truck shuts off in the middle of the road. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, 5 of them. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes, by multiple parties. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes it did/does! The check engine light comes on now with the same symptoms it had before. The problems started less than a month after I got the truck. The first 10 to 15 minutes the truck drives fine then afterwards the check engine light normally comes on throws code p0022. It use to start rough idling with no light on at all but kills when I stop at a light or act as if it’s going shut off when slowing down. The truck is sluggish while it’s acting up, slow to pick up speed and it runs rough. The light will go off for 10 miles and be back on the next day but stays on. The remote start won’t work . The dealer I purchased it from did a lot of work but nothing they did fixed the problem. On paper it says cleaning rather than what they really did. I know they cleaned the throttle body, replaced one of the battery terminals etc.,. The truck has had a full timing job, alternator , water pump and much more done to it. Money was spent on this and the truck continues to do the same thing. Received a diagnostic from yet another ford and they’re trying to replace the same parts that has been replaced multiple times. The truck still isn’t fixed and never has been since day one. It’s just parts being changed and money being wasted. It’s so much I can speak on about this truck but it’s very frustrating. Attached will be some of the invoices that I have for the work that’s been done on the ford f150.
