Car Defect Radar
Built from NHTSA complaints and recalls collected for this model, generated September 22, 2026. Totals reflect what has been collected, not every complaint ever filed.

Recalls

0 total

Safety issues the manufacturer must repair for free. A recall means confirm the fix was done, not walk away.

No recalls on record for this model

No safety recalls were found in this dataset. It is still worth entering the exact VIN on NHTSA before purchase, since recalls can be added at any time.

At approximately 68k miles, I observed hesitation when pulling away from a stop in our 2023 GV80 2.5t AWD Prestige. At 71,300 miles, we observed an increasing howling noise from the rear of the vehicle, primarily at coasting, with various tones emitted during application and release of the accelerator pedal. The rear differential fluid was drained for inspection, and there were metal shavings accumulated on the drain magnet, discolored (metallic shavings) fluid, and visible shiny metal flakes in the drained fluid. The differential is close to total failure on this vehicle. Hyundai has issued a TSB, so it is known, but they are not recalling this extreme safety hazard that has been reported for several years across many owners. A quick search of various owner forums reveals this truth. Moreover, replacement differentials do not improve the issue, often having to be replaced themselves only a short time later.

On April 20th, 2026 I called Genesis of Carmel (Address: [XXX] Phone: [XXX] ) to get a oil change. On the same day I called them I also explained that various warning lights started to appear in the dash (check high beam assist system, check driver attention system, check speed limit system). The next day on the 21st when I wen to t take the car in for service the car would not start. I had to have the car towed to the Genesis dealer listed above. I received no calls from the dealership for 2 weeks. When trying to call their phone it is very hard to get through and strangely they hang up on you once you been transferred to the service department. On May 10th I received a call back from the Genesis delership and they stated that they had out a battery in my car but that the battery is draining and they don't know why. I asked them in they provide loaners sionce ai have beeen without a car for sevral days. they expolained that they don't have any but I could call Genesis (844-340-9741) and perhaps they could help me faster. i asked why they couldn't call for me and they stated that I may have better success. I called Genesis at that phone number 844-340-9641 and again explained all of the above information. I was given a case number and provided the same day as requested the information that they are asking for. This is a copy of the email (attached) I received after that call. Please note that even in this email they are stating it will be awhile before they get back to me. I am still without a car or a call back from the dealership. I purchased GV80 in Genesis of Cumming, GA in May 6, 10:00AM, on the same day, while driving on the highway returning home, low tire pressure warning was poped up in the center cluster, then right after rear-driver side tire unexpectedly ripped off from the rim, causing me to lose control of the car and almost causing a serious accident. No symptoms recognized before incident while I drive on the flat road. Anyway, fortunately I could make the vehicle stopped without any minor collision and body injuries except rim damage and paint peel off on the rear bumper. After parking in a safe place, looking at the other tires and saw a damaged tire is on front the driver's side. (Rim is clean) In this case, the dealer who delivered the vehicle to the customer without inspection is also a problem, but it is the fault of the car manufacturer that manufactured the defective vehicle and sold it without quality inspection. All vehicles in stock must be inspected for all tires and taken over by the customer for safe riding.

The contact owns a 2023 Genesis GV80. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed with a child seated in the rear passenger’s seat, the seat belt webbing loosened from the frame of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the contact was informed that the seat belt might have been cut and caused the failure. The contact disputed the claim and notified the manufacturer of the failure; however, the manufacturer sided with the dealer. The contact was not offered any additional assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 49,000.

A software defect exists which causes the vehicle to reset the electronically controlled side view mirrors such that they point downward, obscuring the driver's view along the sides of the vehicle. I have notified the Genesis dealer and Genesis USA before and neither has been able to reproduce or rectify the problem. I suspect this is a defect when the vehicle is started on an unlevel surface, as the mirrors will attempt to adjust automatically. The defect appears to be most prominent when switching user profiles and shifting into a gear before the driver profile has finished loading. This issue is also present on the 2026 Genesis GV80.

Is 38 complaints a lot? They were filed between 2022 and 2026, roughly 10 a year, which is more than the typical model in this dataset. We do not have sales figures for this model, so treat this as a rough volume, not a rate per car on the road. Popular, high-volume models naturally collect more complaints over time.
