Safety issues the manufacturer must repair for free. A recall means confirm the fix was done, not walk away.

No recalls on record for this model

No safety recalls were found in this dataset. It is still worth entering the exact VIN on NHTSA before purchase, since recalls can be added at any time.

On September 17, 2026, at approximately 22,861 miles, the 6.2L L87 V8 engine in my 2024 GMC Yukon XL suffered a sudden loss of propulsion and was subsequently confirmed by an authorized GMC dealer to be seized and require complete replacement. I was entering northbound I-75 from the Mt. Paran Road entrance in Atlanta, GA with two of my children in the vehicle. This entrance has an extended acceleration ramp where vehicles accelerate to interstate merging speed. While accelerating, the engine briefly stuttered and then the vehicle stopped producing power when I pressed the accelerator. I was unable to continue accelerating and moved onto the limited shoulder. Other vehicles continued accelerating toward I-75 and passed immediately adjacent to us at significant speed. My children and I remained stranded there for approximately two hours waiting for a tow. The vehicle was towed to an authorized GMC dealer, which confirmed the engine is seized and requires complete replacement. The vehicle and failed engine are currently at the dealer and available for inspection. This vehicle was previously subject to NHTSA Recall 25V-274 / GM N252494000 for L87 engine failure and loss of propulsion. An authorized GMC dealer completed the recall procedure on November 3, 2025. The engine was not replaced; it passed the prescribed inspection and received the higher-viscosity-oil remedy. Despite completion of the recall procedure, the engine subsequently experienced the loss-of-propulsion condition identified by the recall. I understand NHTSA has investigated L87 engine failures occurring after completion of this recall remedy, including RQ26001 and EA26005. I am reporting this post-remedy failure because it may be relevant to that investigation.

2024 GMC Yukon intermittently experiences complete loss of audio while driving. During the failure, all audio sources stop working, including radio/music and incoming hands-free telephone audio. During a phone call, the other party can hear me, but I cannot hear them through the vehicle. When this failure occurs, the audible turn-signal click/clack also does not work. In addition, the audible blind-spot warning does not sound. The visual indicators continue to function, but the associated audible warnings are lost. The condition is intermittent but persistent and can last 30+minutes. GM has issued a technical service bulletin addressing loss of audio together with loss of the turn-signal click/clack on 2023–2024 GMC Yukons. I am concerned that this is a safety-related defect because the audio-system failure results in the loss of audible driver warnings while the vehicle is being operated.

On August 6, 2026, I was driving my family up to Whitefish Mountain Resort (a steep mountain road to a ski resort) for dinner when the ESC warning and "Brake System Failure" warning appeared. I immediately attempted to pull safely to the side of the road. When I pressed the brake pedal, the vehicle did not respond normally. I pushed the brake pedal as far down as I could and had essentially no braking ability. Because we were traveling uphill, the vehicle eventually rolled to a stop. When my brother came with his car he had a vehicle scanning tool. He hooked my vehicle up to it and the tool displayed diagnostic codes P25A2 and P3499. This was an extremely serious safety event. Had we been traveling downhill, approaching an intersection, or driving in heavier traffic, the outcome could have been catastrophic.

While parked, my [XXX] daughter was in the third-row bench seat. The seat belt became wrapped around her body/neck area. The seat belt entered its 'Automatic Locking Retractor' (ALR) mode and continued to tighten as she moved, pinning her against the seat. The locking mechanism would not release, and the belt became so tight she was unable to breathe. We attempted to manually release the buckle and create slack, but the retractor remained locked and continued to tighten. After several minutes of unsuccessful attempts to free her, we had to use a cutting tool to sever the seat belt to save her life as she couldnt breath, she has brusing where the seat bealt was tighten. The vehicle was stationary in a parking lot at the time. The car has not being inspected , there was not warning. Is 173 complaints a lot? They were filed between 2024 and 2026, roughly 75 a year, which is more than the typical model in this dataset. We do not have sales figures for this model, so treat this as a rough volume, not a rate per car on the road. Popular, high-volume models naturally collect more complaints over time.
