  • Confirmed fuel dilution and an emissions code cause the car to enter limp mode on the highway; two ECM software updates have not fully fixed it. · filed Apr 2026
    Read the owner's complaint

I have a 2017 CRV 1.5T. I currently have confirmed fuel dilution and a P219F (emission systems problem) code. Records show TSB 18-114 was performed as Honda tried to fix the fuel dilution problem through an ECM software update but it did not fix the issue. They followed it up with TSB 19-067 which was to further update the ECM software. The problem is this was not applied to all CRV 1.5T including mine. This is known ongoing defect and leads to car going into limp mode in highway driving. That is dangerous and a safety hazard. Honda should update the ECM software fix for all Honda CRVs using the 1.5T and replace faulty fuel injectors.

  • Car repeatedly braked and stopped on the highway without cause despite computer module replacements; owner says Honda made her pay most of the cost for a head gasket repair and never performed an existing recall. · filed Sep 2026

Driver assist problems car braking and stopping without just cause actually causing safety issues. Computer issues. Computer replaced several times without resolving issues. Ongoing Engine issues reported to honda before the extended warranty was up. It wasn’t until after the extended warranty was up that American honda would address it. After numerous visits to different dealers for services finally this year I was told it was a head gasket issue. Honda refused to rectify or let in good faith making me come out of pocket more than 50% and purchase parts and honda refused to help I had to fight w them to get any help. I had to purchase the water pump and timing chain bc they wanted to put the old one on. They gave me 3 different significantly different quotes without reasoning. Then after receiving the car back over a month and a half later the car had safety issues stopping and braking on highway without reason. The car also still was sputtering and having issues w the engine. I called Westport honda (where I purchased it - where I had a lifetime warranty on the engine where they just finished doing to head gasket) they ignored me for 2 weeks letting me drive around w safety issues. Finally they told me to bring it in. After 5 days they checked it in and told me I had engine misfires. I requested all the computer print outs w previous repair but didn’t receive them. I contacted American honda to find out there was a safety recall never done by the dealer. I also found out there was an engine extension not told to me and I had to submit receipts to get reimbursed. Then I had to open a new case since the engine still isn’t fixed and has the same issues and yet Westport honda wants to pass the buck and charge me $3000 for more repairs making me come out of pocket thousands of dollars and have a car still not repaired. Honda should buy back the vehicle or fix and repairs all issues correctly without charging me. Honda is putting me and my child and family at risk!

  • After a collision mitigation braking system replacement, the car now suddenly brakes and decelerates in cruise control with nothing ahead at highway speed; dealer can't find the cause. · filed Apr 2026
    Read the owner's complaint

My 2017 CRV Touring was working fine. I had a fender bender accident and they replaced the Collision Mitigation Braking System with a new Honda part. After the repair and I have the car in cruise control, it will suddenly brake and decelerate when there is nothing in front of me. This is very dangerous when you're going 65 mph on a highway. It is at the Honda Short Pump dealership. They have had it for 4 working days and can't find the problem. I know there was a class action lawsuit and Honda won, but surely this is a very serious problem they should fix.

Gear shift button broke and came out of the shifter completely. I can not put the vehicle in gear and I am stranded. I contacted my local dealership and they acted like they have never heard of this being a problem. My vehicle had under 12000 miles and this happens. Of course it is a problem. The components broken brittle parts speak for the cheap plastic used in such a critical area. The cost of the repair shouldn't be a factor for recall. The number of people reporting this problem is a small percent compared to the many who have had the repair when it is clearly a manufacturers defect.

The push button knob on the gear shift broke when putting the car into reverse, during normal use. This resulted in being unable to use the gear shift to shift gears. This put passengers and pedestrians in danger in a parking lot, as the car was then unable to be shifted into park. When the CRV is unable to be put into park, the engine will not fully turn off. A 29 May 2019 Honda Service Bulletin exists for this problem and is found on NHTSA.gov. There were no warnings or symptoms before the incident occurred.

  • Fuel system fault caused engine hesitation, power loss, and gasoline odor; owner says dealer improperly reused a mandatory one-time fuel pipe during the repair, risking a fuel leak. · filed Apr 2026
    Read the owner's complaint

System/Component Involved: Fuel System / Fuel Injectors / High-Pressure Fuel Joint Pipe Description of Incident and Safety Risk: My 2017 Honda CR-V (1.5T engine) experienced a fuel system failure evidenced by DTC P0172 and a failed AF cylinder test, confirmed by an authorized Honda dealer. This failure leads to engine hesitation and power loss, creating a safety hazard during operation. More critically, during the repair (Case #16244235), the dealer and manufacturer refused to replace the High-Pressure Fuel Joint Pipe. According to Honda’s official Service Manual and TSBs for the Earth Dreams 1.5T engine, this pipe is a mandatory, one-time-use component that must be replaced whenever fuel injectors are serviced. Reusing this component violates Honda’s own safety protocols and poses a severe fire risk due to potential fuel leakage under high pressure ($20\text{ MPa}$+). Safety Risk to Others: Reinstalling a non-reusable high-pressure fuel line creates a high probability of fuel spraying onto hot engine components, leading to an under-hood fire while driving. This endangers the occupants and others on the road. Reproduction and Inspection: The injector failure was confirmed by [Insert Dealer Name] in Houston, TX. The subsequent safety violation (failure to replace the mandatory fuel joint pipe) is documented on my repair invoice dated April 2026. The vehicle and the old part (if still on the car) are available for inspection. Symptoms and Warning Lamps: The Check Engine Light (DTC P0172) appeared shortly before the failure, accompanied by a strong gasoline odor and engine stalling symptoms.

  • Vehicle suddenly stops accelerating with warning messages that driver assist, cruise control, and brakes are not working, especially at highway speed. · filed Sep 2025
    Read the owner's complaint

To Whom It May Concern, I am reporting a serious safety concern with my 2017 Honda CR-V related to the fuel/propulsion system. While driving, the vehicle will suddenly stop accelerating. At the same time, multiple warning messages appear on the dash, including alerts that the driver assist system, cruise control, and brake system are not functioning, along with other system warnings. This issue happens without warning and has occurred multiple times. It creates a dangerous situation, especially at highway speeds or in traffic, since the vehicle loses the ability to accelerate and several critical safety systems appear disabled. I am very concerned that this may be a defect in the fuel/propulsion system or an associated electrical/control system that could pose a risk to myself, my passengers, and other drivers. Please advise on the next steps for inspection and resolution.

Vehicle unexpectedly begins to start flashing all warning systems while simultaneously losing excessive power. Unexpected ADAS system malfunction may cause the vehicle to break unexpectedly creating unsafe conditions or driving hazards for driver, passengers and others on the road. There is a significant loss of power, again, creating dangerous conditions while driving through busy traffic at high speeds or driving uphill. - Hill Start Assist Problem - Adaptive Cruise Control - Collision Mitigation System - Road Departure Mitigation System - Electric Parking Brake - Tire Pressure Monitor - Emissions system - All Wheel Drive - Brake System Problem - Brake Hold - Power Steering System - Vehicle Stability Assist Attempts to resolve issue Attempt # 1: Honda did a software update, resolved the issue for about four-five months (December 2020).... Mileage 49,504 # 2: Replaced Battery and Spark Plugs (April 2021) # 3: Appointment Scheduled for May 12th, 2021.... Mileage 54,330 #4: Disconnected battery mileage 96,000+ #5: New Spark plugs and new battery mileage 97,000+ The first time this occurred I was driving with my wife and two children. We were traveling down hill, a narrow road which is steep and has any sharp turns. As the system failures began to light up the car became extremely unsafe. There was very little control of the brake system as well as the steering system. Fortunately we avoided a potentially deadly scenario. Once we came to to level terrain where we could eventually slow down enough to stop the car, it was shuttering the whole way until we found a safe spot to pull over nearby. The car was then towed and serviced by Honda of Ithaca (Ithaca, NY). That same dealer said the resolved the issue with confidence, that it just needed a software upgrade. The concern here is that there seems to be no resolution for this issue and no warning as to when this could and seems to be will happen again.

  • Cascading warning lights over time led to the dashboard dimming and the car stuttering on the highway with a 'Critical Failure' message telling the driver to stop. · filed Dec 2023
    Read the owner's complaint

What I experienced was a multiple system failure. It began with a dead battery two years ago. When the engine was restarted the TPMS light came on along with the indicator light to get your car checked. The lights only came on intermittently at first and it didn't seem to affect the function of the car. I had assumed that when I replaced the battery, I had loosened a fuse. As time passed, the number of lights on the dashboard increased along with the duration of time they stayed lit up. Now, within the past 3 months, all the system indicator lights are on constantly, with the accompanying beeps, dings and sounds for each light. Yesterday, on the highway, my dashboard began to dim and the vehicle began to stutter. The dashboard indicator read Critical Failure Detected. Stop Driving When Safe. At the time I was on the highway in the right lane going 51 mph. This is unsafe. I have children and grandchildren and I do not feel safe transporting any of them. The reported problems are: Brake System, Tire Pressure Monitor, Electric Parking Brake, Road departure Mitigation System, Collision Mitigation System, Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Hill Start Assist, Vehicle Stability Assist, Anti-Lock Brake, Power Steering System

The dash warning lights all come on when the vehicle is started. Numerous Warning messages scroll across the dash indicating just about every system on the vehicle is malfunctioning. The collision warning system stops working, the lane change warning stops working, cruise control stops working. I have no idea what else could have stopped working that could mean the difference between life and death. My vehicle has had this problem for almost two years now. This problem stops after disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes then it comes back unpredictably. Honda dealerships just guess what the problem is because there are no definitive error codes. They randomly want to change parts like fuel injectors, onboard computer, brakes, battery, and others, and charge thousands of dollars and will not refund the money when the problem reappears. This problem is putting drivers at serious risk and Honda has done absolutely nothing to find and repair the problem. There are hundreds of reports of this problem online and Honda has not responded. Honda dealerships are making tons of money from this issue and doing nothing to solve the problem.

My 2017 Honda CRV throws up ALL warning lights regarding TPMS, Lane Keep Assist, Cruise, Engine, etc...I've replaced the battery. I've taken it to the dealer and they just say we don't know what it is and we would like to hold it for 24-48hrs to do a diagnostic which is $250 out of pocket without a fix. Multiple forums state that this is a consistent problem with the 2017-2021 model years. One common fix is fuel injector replacement, but that only temporarily fixes the issue then all the lights come on again. It's a hazard and since all mechanisms are controlled by electronics, we need Honda to fix the issue or look into it as it's very dangerous to drive when dealers can't even isolate the issue.

I was driving my Honda CRV 2017 on I-65 in Birmingham - Montgomery area in Alabama in March 2024 and suddenly in the middle of the busy highway the vehicle stalled and wouldn’t drive even after stepping on the accelerator a little harder. I then turned on my emergency lights to signal to the behind vehicles that I have and emergency situation became I was in the middle of a busy highway and the vehicle simply wouldn’t drive. I managed to pull aside of the highway and turned the engine off because I didn’t know what the issue was. After a few minutes I started the vehicle again and drove a few miles and the vehicle stalled again. After a couple of repeated cycle, I got the vehicle to a nearby Honda dealership for diagnostic testing which later revealed that the fuel injectors, the head gasket, the turbo system etc were causing the vehicle to stall. The vehicle is currently not drivable and has since been with the Honda dealership as I am writing. With taxes, the dealership is charging me approximately 5000 USD to fix this problem, money that I cannot afford. Not knowing what to do, I did a brief research to see if anyone else has experienced this issue before and I found out in the consumer report that other drivers have actually experienced exactly the same issue that happened to my vehicle. I currently do not have any additional vehicle for commuting and I am forced to use rented vehicles with the rental cost accumulating on the daily basis while my vehicle remains with the dealership. I am therefore writing this notification for Honda to look into this potentially risk safety incidence and help Honda CRV owners and myself get this problem fixed because such experience doesn’t boost consumer confidence for both current and future Honda CRV owners. Is 1,766 complaints a lot? They were filed between 2017 and 2026, roughly 185 a year, which is more than the typical model in this dataset. We do not have sales figures for this model, so treat this as a rough volume, not a rate per car on the road. Popular, high-volume models naturally collect more complaints over time.

How does it compare with other years? The 2017 has 1,766 complaints on file, more than the 2016 (392) and fewer than the 2018 (2,138). Of the 17 model years of the Honda CR-V we cover, the 2018 has the most (2,138). Older model years have had longer to collect complaints.
