I was at a stoplight with my foot on the brake. The car lurched forward, which prompted me to push harder on the brake. Then, with my foot firmly on the brake, the car accelerated into the car in front of me. There was body damage to the car. Volvo investigated and said that the computer indicated that the gas pedal was engaged at 90% while the brake was engaged at the same time. This would involve me putting my foot on the gas and brake at the same time, which simply is not what happened. There is clearly something wrong with their computer system. The same problem was identified in the XC40 Recharge EV model.

When putting vehicle in reverse, camera can become stuck or not load at all impacting rear visibility. This was previously recalled and Volvo claims a remedy through software update but I believe this is processor based and they will need to replace the units with their snapdragon processor to rectify this. Their newer models include the snapdragon processor and don’t have this issue.

Automatic Intervention Collision Avoidance system activated unnecessarily and unexpectedly during a freeway exit. There were no cars ahead within a reasonable distance, but there was a car in the adjacent lane of a “dual” parallel exit lane on the freeway. There was a solid white line between vehicles and the system seemed to interpret both vehicles exiting the freeway simultaneously as a “near collision” when in fact we were both operating correctly. I did not notice any intrusion or movement of the adjacent vehicle into our lane. The response from the vehicle was a sudden and violent movement of the steering wheel to the left and I believe application of the brakes although I am not certain of that. This event occurred in the southbound lanes of [XXX] near [XXX]. The exit, I believe, is for [XXX] [XXX] . This was a rental vehicle.
