Driver door ajar warning and latch fault

Not a safety issue

Owners report the driver door ajar warning staying on with the door shut, keeping interior lights on, draining the battery and stopping the doors from locking. Some also see shift-to-park prompts, and dealer cleaning of the latch contacts sometimes only helps for a while.

The door closer says door ajar when it is closed. It is on the front driver's side door. The dome light is constantly on running out the battery and my wife is not able to lock the doors!!! This is a major safety issue!! I found some info online about A LOT of other ford owners having the same issues and ford doesn't think it's a big deal!!?? Is it going to take someone getting seriously injured for this to be resolved? This is ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE!

Door switch problem -even when all doors are shut ,control panel is telling you a door is ajared -interior light stays on --can not lock car with remote --because it thinks door is open . if I try to lock my doors when I try to drive doors will not lock-safety issue right there. now I was informed by ford in January 2020 for the first time about this customer satisfaction problem as they called it . At this time the problem did not happen that often and the covid virus problem had keep us at home . when we were able to go out safely I brought car to my dealership and showed the paper work and the service dept said it is not covered anymore and I would have to pay $500.00 approximately. I called Ford from there and they would not give the ok on fixing it, where they would be able to do while I was there for regular maintenance. I advised them that I was only informed by that one letter in 2020. I have been having them do my service since I bought car in 2013 and nothing was ever mentioned about this problem . and now problem with door is continuous and I feel it should be taken care of by Ford. You have my vin # please have someone get back to me on what I should do to have this repaired by Ford.

  • Brake pedal gradually needed more force to stop the car due to a failing brake booster and master cylinder, raising collision risk for a teen driver before parts were replaced. · filed Apr 2026
    Read the owner's complaint

I am reporting a safety issue involving a 2013 Ford Edge Sport AWD related to progressive brake failure. The affected components include the brake booster and master cylinder. The vehicle remains available for inspection upon request. In mid-2025, the vehicle developed a gradual loss of braking capability. The brake pedal required increasing force over time to bring the vehicle to a stop. Because the failure developed progressively rather than suddenly, the severity of the issue was not immediately apparent. At the time, the vehicle was primarily driven by my teenage son, a new driver, who continued operating the vehicle by pressing the brake pedal harder to compensate. This created a significant safety risk, as the vehicle did not reliably stop under normal braking conditions, increasing the risk of collision. The issue was confirmed by an independent mechanic, and repairs required replacement of the brake booster, master cylinder, and related components. The vehicle was later discussed with a Ford dealership; however, no warning of coverage or recall applicability was identified at that time. There were no clear warning lights or dashboard messages indicating brake system failure prior to the issue. The primary symptom was a progressive increase in required pedal force. After the repair, I learned that brake booster failure is a known issue for this vehicle platform and has been the subject of prior manufacturer service campaigns. I am concerned that this type of gradual brake degradation may not be recognized by drivers, particularly inexperienced drivers, and could result in unsafe operating conditions. The vehicle has also experienced repeated rear differential failures. Replacement parts are no longer manufactured by Ford, requiring use of used components with unknown condition and lifespan, further affecting vehicle reliability and safe operation. I have attached a receipt for the second time purchasing and replacing the rear differential.

  • A brake booster vacuum leak caused mushy, hard-to-stop brakes and repeated engine stalls at red lights; dealer says the VIN is not covered by the related recall. · filed Dec 2025
    Read the owner's complaint

I purchased this vehicle used in August 2025 from the estate of a friend's relative. The records show it was meticulously maintained and no recall notices have been unaddressed. The prior owner used it infrequently and it still has just under 90k miles. There were no major engine issues when my local repair shop (over 12 years and 3 vehicles) inspected all systems, and the vehicle passed for PA state inspection and emissions. However, driving more, I noticed that the brakes would intermittently become "mushy" or "hard" and overall less responsive. I needed to use a lot of force to fully stop over a longer distance. There was also a hissing noise while braking and sometimes the cabin air fan would blast on suddenly. Then, while stopped at a red light and applying the brakes, the engine shut off and check engine light came on. My mechanic detected O2 sensor codes P2195/P2197 indicating "stuck lean." But nothing about the brake booster, and so we cleaned it up a bit and tried to get more of an understanding of the issue. Now I know that the compromised engine vacuum from the booster air leak is impacting the fuel/air balance. Extremely unsafe. This has now happened MANY times while I try to get a good diagnosis and help. It's scary, and makes city driving very challenging. On multiple occasions I feared I would hit other vehicles or would have to "creep" at a light to alleviate the airflow issues from braking. If I have to be at a light for more than a moment, I will put the car in park and foot off the brake. I'd rather risk being honked at or hit, than have the engine dying on me in traffic. When I was able to get to a dealership, I was informed that it was the brake booster. The first thing I found when looking up that part for the 2013 Ford Edge was the recall. The dealership says my VIN was not covered, but it seems more than coincidence that this is the exact problem, now confirmed by the dealership. The part is faulty, and should be replaced by OEM.

Just purchased this used vehicle from Orange Auto Connection in [XXX] on XXX. Car was in perfect operating condition. 2 days later while driving with my 2 granddaughters I was approaching a stop sign at about 35-40 mph and as I started to push on the break pedal it became very soft and pushed all the way to the floor with no resistance. I thought the car wouldnt stop,. Thankfully it did without an accident . It has not returned to the normal breaking conditions. Today is XXX. I have to drive this car everyday as it is my only vehicle. I didn't buy an extended warranty from the dealer because I couldn't afford it. Why has this issue not become a safety recall. If I had known about this problem that has apparently been addressed years ago and had just expired in November 2025 prior to buying this car I wouldn't have purchased it. They are a lot of people including myself that live check to check and still struggle with every day necessities and potentially being faced with a heafty repair bill to fix a dangerous fault that manufacture knew about really causes sleepless nights and undo stress that they should not have to endure because they are afraid they will be hurt or hurt othera in an accident caused by a manufacture defect. The brakes on my 2013 Ford Edge failed with no notice. Luckily I was able to coast into a parking lot to get stopped. Even pushing the brake pedal to the floor will not stop the car. We immediately and safely took the car to our local repair shop who confirmed we needed 2 ABS parts to fix the car. That was Oct, 2025 and as of today (June 10, 2026)the parts are still not available to order. I have checked with 3 Ford dealers in 3 states and all say the same thing. They can't order the parts to fix my car and say over 1,500 are on back order. The car is undriveable with no brakes and creates a major safety risk. I have heard some dealers got Ford to provide a rental car. MY MECHANIC HAS INFORMED ME THAT MY MASTER CYLINDERS ARE BAD. THAT THIS PART ON THE FORD EDGE LEAKS FLUID INTO THE POWER BOOSTER WHICH COMPROMISES THE BOOSTER'S DIAPHRAGM AND IS UNDER A CURRENT RECALL WITH FORD. I HAD MY POWER BOOSTER REPLACED LAST OCTOBER, BECAUSE MY BRAKE PEDAL WOULD BECOME STIFF AND DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS. SINCE HAVING THE BOOSTERS REPLACED, I HAVE THE OPPOSITE PROBLEM. THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSES ALMOST TO THE FLOOR BEFORE ENGAGING. BECAUSE THE MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE BOOSTER WORK IN TANDEM, IT MAKES NO SENSE TO REPLACE ONE WITHOUT REPLACING THE OTHER, ESPECIALLY SINCE IT HAS BEEN NOTED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER IS THE CAUSATION OF THE POWER BOOSTER'S FAILURE. I IMPLORE YOU TO ISSUE A CORRESPONDING RECALL FOR THE MASTER CYLINDER OR AMMEND THE RECALL ON THE POWER BOOSTER TO INCLUDE THIS COMPONENT.

Safety issues the manufacturer must repair for free. A recall means confirm the fix was done, not walk away.

Transmission recall

Confirm it was repairedRecall 14V393000 · Jul 2014

If the halfshaft and linkshaft become disengaged while driving, power will no longer be transmitted to the wheels, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. Additionally, if the parking brake is not applied before exiting the vehicle, the vehicle may roll away despite the transmission being placed in 'Park', increasing the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

Remedy
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to make sure that the halfshaft is properly retained. If it is not, dealers will replace the linkshaft and also replace the halfshaft if it shows evidence of spline damage, free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S10.

Is 2,443 complaints a lot? They were filed between 2012 and 2026, roughly 173 a year, which is more than the typical model in this dataset. We do not have sales figures for this model, so treat this as a rough volume, not a rate per car on the road. Popular, high-volume models naturally collect more complaints over time.

How does it compare with other years? The 2013 has 2,443 complaints on file, more than the 2012 (1,134) and more than the 2014 (381). That is the most of the 15 model years of the Ford Edge we cover. Older model years have had longer to collect complaints.
