Yesterday, I began experiencing transmission-related issues: rough, delayed or sudden shifting; grinding noise during shifting; harsh engagement of gears; and reduced power when shifting. The ‘Service Shifter’ indicator came on while driving. This is an ongoing transmission issue I have experienced with my 2015 Jeep Cherokee and I believe that this persistent problem is compromising the safety of myself and my passengers.

IT STARTED COMING ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING BUT IT DIDN'T COME ON AFTER I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTOOD FROM THE DEALERS, IT SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE JEEPS. I DID MY RESEARCH, AND SOME PEOPLE HAD IT REPLACED BUT CONTINUE TO BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD HAD A RECALL FOR IT. I'VE HAD SO MANY RECALLS IN THIS VEHICLES SINCE I GOT THE CAR. • While turning left across traffic, the car would not accelerate past about 3 mph, nearly causing an accident; dealer says the hesitation, worse in cold weather, is normal. · filed Mar 2021

ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN ONTO ROADWAY ACROSS TRAFFIC TRAVELING AT APPROX 45 MPH. THERE WAS A BREAK IN TRAFFIC. I ACCELERATED. THE CAR MOVED FORWARD, BUT WOULDN'T ACCELERATE. WOULD ONLY DO ABOUT 3 MPH NO MATTER WHAT I DID WITH THE GAS PEDAL. I NEARLY CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE DEALER CLAIMS THAT IS NORMAL FOR THAT CAR IF YOU DON'T ALLOW IT TO WARM UP. THERE ARE MANY REPORTED PROBLEMS WITH THE 9 SPEED TRANSMISSION, BUT IT COULD ALSO BE THE CONTROL MODULE. THIS PROBLEM CAN BE REPRODUCED, BUT IS MORE PRONOUNCED WHEN THE WEATHER IS COLD. THE HESITATION IS LESS IN WARMER WEATHER. ONCE THE ENGINE WARMS UP, THERE IS STILL A HESITATION, BUT IT IS NOT AS SEVERE.

JEEP DEALERS HAVE BEEN UNRESPONSIVE IN RESOLVING/FIXING RECALL W47 LEADING TO THE LACK OF FUNCTIONALITY OF MY JEEP CHEROKEE 2015, REQUIRING TOW FROM CHESTER, MD TO ALEXANDRIA, VA GIVEN THE VEHICLE COULD NO LONGER BE DRIVEN. DEALER NOW SUDDENLY HAS "RECALL FIX" (NOT AVAILABLE AFTER 9 PREVIOUS CALLS/MESSAGES BETWEEN 7/21/2020 - 8/22/2020 WHEN DEALER REPS NEVER RETURNED A MESSAGE/CALL). THEY CLAIM AS OF TODAY (AFTER JEEP WAS DROPPED AT DEALER BY TOW TRUCK), THE RECALL FIX HAS BEEN DONE - BUT SAY THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT IS STILL ON AND NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED/PAID FOR BY THE CUSTOMER. I BELIEVE THIS COULD BE FURTHER RESULT OF NOT FIXING A DANGEROUS RECALL SITUATION WHICH COULD HAVE DAMAGED THE CAR BEYOND THE RECALL RELATED TO FRONT WHEELS, TRANSMISSION, LOSS OF POWER, LOSS OF PARK FUNCTION. MY VEHICLE STOPPED RUNNING, ALL TRANSMISSION SERVICE/ABS AND PARKING BRAKE SERVICE LIGHTS WENT ON SIMULTANEOUSLY AND THE JEEP ROLLED BACKWARD UNTIL I TURNED IT OFF. THANKFULLY I HAD GOTTEN OFF OF BUSY HIGHWAY AND EXPERIENCED THIS AT AN EXIT AND THEN PARKING LOT WHERE I WAIVED OTHER DRIVERS AROUND ME, PARKED THE VEHICLE AND THEN IT WAS PLACED ON A FLAT BED TOW TRUCK. DEALERS ARE NOT TAKING THIS RECALL SERIOUSLY. MORE DETAILS ATTACHED. THE ISSUE HAS NOT YET BEEN RESOLVED BY OURISMAN ALEXANDRIA WHERE MY VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND IS STILL LOCATED.

  • Vehicle failed to move in drive or reverse and multiple dashboard warning lights flashed after shifting gears; not yet taken in for diagnosis. · filed Dec 2024
    Read the owner's complaint

I own a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited. A week ago I was in a parking lot and reversing out of a parking space when a warning light came on "shift in park to start engine." The engine was running, however as I shifted to drive numerous lights on the dash board were flashing on and off. I shifted the vehicle to park, however when I shifted back to drive the vehicle was not moving forward when I stepped on the gas pedal. I shut the vehicle off and on and was able to shift to drive and move forward although multiple warnings were flashing on the dash board. I was able to drive back to my home. I turned the vehicle off and on and again shifted to drive, however this time the vehicle did not move forward, the same when I shifted to reverse. I have not taken my vehicle to a dealer or mechanic yet, so not sure what the issue is here, but I did see that there were over 900 complaints for power train on the NHTSA website and the most recent 2 or 3 recalls were describing very similar incidents to what happened to my vehicle.

Continual problems with Power train led to replacement of the Power Transfer Unit at 94,910 miles [ under warranty ] The vehicle is not usable when the PTU fails. The vehicle will slam into gear hard, or fail to move for a few seconds when trying to take off from a stop sign and then slam into gear. Very dangerous when pulling into traffic. Now after experiencing the same erratic behavior at 123000 miles , i took the jeep back to the same dealer only to find the Power transfer unit again must be replaced. The replacement only lasted about 28,000 miles. I am retired, this jeep has not been abused nor driven off road. This could cause an accident or strand me somewhere making me afraid to drive it. • Water leaking in from the liftgate flooded the parking brake module and ECU area, causing the emergency brake to engage on its own and stick while driving, stranding the vehicle on a busy highway. · filed Dec 2024

Driving through [XXX] in Belfair, WA my 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with the 2.4L started running rough and was jerking. As I entered the turn lane the Service Park Brake light flashed, my Jeep jerked to a stop and the emergency brake was turned on while I was still in Drive. I could not get the Emergency Brake to release even after putting my vehicle into park and pressing the brake pedal. I turned the Jeep off then back on but the Emergency Brake was still stuck on. I had to shut the Jeep off and get out of my vehicle on a very busy Highway to get my tools from the spare tire cargo. Upon retrieving my tools I noticed several inches of standing water in the spare tire area. I then popped my hood, disconnected the battery then reconnected the battery. This allowed the Emergency Brake to release so I could drive to the nearest parking lot. I was along an extremely busy State Highway for almost 10 minutes and nearly got hit by other vehicles including school busses and big rigs! My Jeep was towed to my home in Shelton, WA where further inspection showed water had been leaking from the lift gate. I removed all panels and found almost 4 inches of water where my spare sits, mold, water and moisture on and around the ECU and the Automatic Braking System and rust. The seals are good but when it rains the water finds its way in! These pictures are from after when I used my shop vac to get the water out. I found there is a recall for the exact same thing but only for Power Lift Gates. I do not have a Power Lift Gate but this is a major safety issue and should be recalled whether the 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk has a power lift gate or manual lift gate! A quick internet search shows so many other Jeep Owners without the Power Lift Gate have the same issue and complaints! Is 1,786 complaints a lot? They were filed between 2014 and 2026, roughly 149 a year, which is more than the typical model in this dataset. We do not have sales figures for this model, so treat this as a rough volume, not a rate per car on the road. Popular, high-volume models naturally collect more complaints over time.

How does it compare with other years? The 2015 has 1,786 complaints on file, fewer than the 2014 (2,645) and more than the 2016 (1,406). Of the 9 model years of the Jeep Cherokee we cover, the 2014 has the most (2,645). Older model years have had longer to collect complaints.
