We were driving this weekend and the headrest components failed and blew it apart. It shoved my husbands head forward really hard. We pulled over and tried to fix it but all the pieces are snapped inside of it. From our understanding that is a safety feature that is supposed to happen in a crash but we were not in a crash, just doing 55 mph down the road. It was not inspected by anyone yet but from reading online forums this seems to be a common occurrence.

I own a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5,7 summit trim, I've been experienced a very scary situation with this car on last 4 months, with no warnings this vehicle completely shuts-off, with no power, no radio, no dash lights. For few times happened on my drive way, but most the times I was on highway running between 45 to 70 mph, its come from the blue. But after the engine stops, it just restart like nothing had happened, no lights on dash no warnings. I left this truck on sandy Sansing dealer ( Milton Florida (850)6236866 like 4 times, they replace few sensors and update software on first time, but day after I was there again, and again and again. Now, they have my car o shop for over 40 days but they can find or replicate de issue, of course to replicate the issue you need to drive the car, and according with then they drove the car for 50 miles with no issues( and of course nobody wants to drive a car that can stops in any minute ). I ask the Dealer if a fuel pump could cause that, they had no clue, but they gave me a price for replace both, so at this point I'm extremely frustrate, cause I've a car with a brand new engine that always was serviced on Jeep Dealer, that I can't use and who has all technical capability is incompetent to fix. I saw lots of cases like mine on internet. I could get someone or my self kill. Any help is deeply appreciate

  • Transmission randomly drops into neutral while driving at speed, locks the shifter, and engages the brakes on its own, stranding the car in traffic; a $3,000 dealer repair did not fix it. · filed Jul 2026
    Read the owner's complaint

The vehicle has a severe, life-threatening safety defect where it randomly drops into neutral while driving at speed, physically locks the shifter, and actively engages the electronic braking system on its own, stranding me in active traffic. I brought the vehicle to a certified Jeep dealership to resolve this exact symptom. They misdiagnosed the vehicle and charged me nearly $3,000 to replace the valve body and connectors. The dangerous symptom remains completely unchanged, meaning the vehicle is unsafe to operate and the manufacturer-certified repair facility has failed to remedy a critical safety defect. The issue hasn’t been fixed and it has been 5-6 months.

  • Transmission unexpectedly shifted into neutral at 50 mph and would not shift back while in traffic; this was the second time in four months and the dealer could not diagnose it. · filed Mar 2024
    Read the owner's complaint

While driving at about 50 mph, the transmission shifted into neutral and would not allow me to shift it back into drive while moving or stopped. This put me in a very dangerous situation as I was in traffic and in the left lane on a 4-lane road. After about 10 minutes of the engine being shut off, it started again and ran just fine. A check engine light did come on, giving error code P0205 and U0002-88 when scanned. I believe the latter code is a stored code from a previous issue. No warning lights were on immediately prior to the incident. This is the second time it has happened in the span of about 4 months. The mechanic was not able to diagnose the cause after the first occurrence. After the second occurrence, the local Jeep dealer was contacted; they were not aware of any such issues and recommended adding fuel injector cleaner and changing the spark plugs/getting a tune up. The dealer did not inspect the car. The next day the check engine light went off, though the code may be stored in the car’s memory.

The seat belt does not retract as it should. I have already had it replaced once and I have a second that is failing now. We have not been in an accident to see if it is a problem with restraining you as a driver, but it is a point of concern. The dealer replaced the first one, right after we purchased the vehicle, and it is exhibiting similar symptoms now of not retracting after unbuckled. You can manually align it to get it to feed back, but this doesn't seem to be the correct way to handle this.

What component: The piece of plastic trim that helps guide the seatbelt into the wall of the car has cracked and is preventing the seatbelt from retracting. Safety Risk: This prevents the seatbelt from retracting while driving the car (if it becomes loose it stays loose and therefore doesn't restrain the driver.) Is 2,375 complaints a lot? They were filed between 2013 and 2026, roughly 177 a year, which is more than the typical model in this dataset. We do not have sales figures for this model, so treat this as a rough volume, not a rate per car on the road. Popular, high-volume models naturally collect more complaints over time.

How does it compare with other years? The 2014 has 2,375 complaints on file, more than the 2013 (802) and more than the 2015 (1,356). That is the most of the 17 model years of the Jeep Grand Cherokee we cover. Older model years have had longer to collect complaints.
